Transgender Ga. official wins legal battle
ATLANTA - Georgia’s top court ruled in favor of a transgender politician who was slapped with a lawsuit by two political opponents who claimed she misled voters by running as a woman.
The Georgia Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling on Monday found that the two political opponents who filed the lawsuit failed to produce evidence of fraud, misconduct or illegal action after claiming that Michelle Bruce bamboozled voters by identifying herself as female.
Bank of America Settles Lawsuit Over Bad Mortgages
SPRINGFIELD, Ill.—Facing a lawsuit over deceptive mortgage practices, a Bank of America Corp. subsidiary has agreed to modify tens of thousands of loans to keep people in 11 states from losing their homes, the Illinois attorney general’s office said Sunday.
Borrowers stuck with Countrywide Financial mortgages that they can’t afford could see their interest rates reduced or have the loan principal cut. Some might qualify for having to pay nothing but interest for a decade. Even people who can’t afford to keep their homes with such changes will be able to get help moving to a new home.

Will Ehrlich run again? Maybe, but he’s fundraising already
REISTERSTOWN - Bob Ehrlich remains undecided about a possible rematch against Gov. Martin O’Malley in 2010. His supporters, however, aren’t waiting.
At a Corn Roast this weekend—designed to add cash to the Bob Ehrlich for Maryland Committee—the one-term governor shook hands with supporters, took pictures, chatted with old friends and even signed a young girl’s cast. Hundreds of Ehrlich’s Republican counterparts attended the annual fundraiser hosted by Tom and Jone Reynolds at their Reisterstown farm.

Biden’s Fantasy World
Sarah Palin may not know as much about the world, but at least most of what she knows is true
In the popular media wisdom, Sarah Palin is the neophyte who knows nothing about foreign policy while Joe Biden is the savvy diplomatic pro. Then what are we to make of Mr. Biden’s fantastic debate voyage last week when he made factual claims that would have got Mrs. Palin mocked from New York to Los Angeles?

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The next round of state budget cuts will likely be more apparent to Maryland residents, prompting Gov. Martin O’Malley to refer to an upcoming spending board meeting as a “Parade of Horrible.”

Maryland is facing an electricity shortfall starting in 2011, and the state’s utility regulator is urging the area’s grid operator to organize a regional dialogue to tackle the problem.
In a letter sent Thursday to PJM Interconnection, operator of the grid that serves Washington, Maryland and 12 other states, the state Public Service Commission asked PJM officials to bring the utility commissioners of each state together for a “candid discussion” of the problem that will afflict the entire region if new transmission lines are not built in time.

10 turbines envisioned for former Navy communications site along the Severn River
Nearly a decade after the Navy retired and dismantled 19 communications towers along the Severn River, a fledgling energy company is planning to build wind turbines that would turn the near-constant breeze there into electricity.
David Murrin, a merchant mariner who has formed a partnership with his lifelong friend, developer and marina owner Marcellous Butler, wants to build up to 10 high-tech windmills near the Naval Academy at Greenbury Point - enough, he said to provide power for as many as 10,000 homes.

Take that, Tina: Palin wants to spoof her spoofer
As the comedian’s impressions of the GOP vice presidential candidate draw laughs from Republicans and Democrats alike, a top honcho from the John McCain campaign tells me there’s a debate going on about how to respond.
Some key McCain staffers are content with Palin joking about the “SNL” routines on the campaign trail—as when scribbled “I’m not Tina Fey” on a supporter’s cell phone and said she’d dressed as Fey on Halloween. But others—including the governor herself—think a return punch on the NBC airwaves is what’s needed.

"As far back as I can remember, I've been a news-junkie. The advent of the Internet (thanks, Al Gore) has only worsened my addiction. Couple that with my new-found interest in politics (the strategy behind, not the ideology), and well, I guess there's no hope for me! On these pages you'll find links to items from various sources that have caught my interest today.
